This week, we completed our cannon models. I ended up having
to completely redo the ZBrush sculpt and repaint in Mudbox due to problems
early on in the model that compounded over the course of the project. This
became one of those projects where I learned more by mistakes than by
successes, but as is often the case, the information gained through failure was
extremely beneficial. In the end, I have something semi-decent to show for all
of the headaches along the way. Here's a render of the final version and the wireframe of the model:
These are the final normal, texture and specular maps for
the project. The normal map was, by far, the biggest issue that I ran into. At
some point between finishing the low poly model and sculpting in ZBrush, the sides
of the model were moved, which caused unsightly errors when the normal map was
baked. I also had errors caused by the sides being too close to the
barrel.
